April 19th - Raceday: Deerfield, Glastonbury, CRI, St. John's Prep and BC High Page 3
This was a monster day in all respects. It was our first Raceday of the season thanks a canceled Salisbury (Illness) and a Canceled Kent (weather).
We had 11 boats with 99 athlete in total field of 40 boats and 360 athletes from 6 schools. Amazingly the races ran like clockwork, thanks especially to Coaches Hurley and Finch who were
herding the starters and aligning the starters. Our boats did a great job especially since it was the first race for many of our coxswains and rowers. Thank you to all of our coaches who
have trained the skill and nurtured the enthusiasm shown by all our tribe of racers on Saturday
A huge thank you to all the parents who turned out to support the tribe and the parents who ran the food table to feed the tribe. Our boats go faster when the hear the cheers from the
shore and they row better if we feed them race food before and they recover better after the race with recovery food from food table.
We also welcomed the PA athletic Director, Lisa Joel, a regular guest, who rode in the safety launch with us and helped with the livestream video. Lisa brought with her,
David Fricke, Sports information Director and photographer. David brought along a camera with a lens about the size of a small washing machine. His 4000 mm Canon lens dwarfs
my little 200 mm Nikon and of course he is a real photographer compared my miserable amateur ability. We hope to post some of his images in the next 24 hours.
If any parent would like to share their photographs on this site, please email andovercrew@andovercrew.com and together we will make it happen.
